I met Gary only once. That was in the Big Bear parking lot on Brice Road in 2001. He was rather outgoing and quite complimentary about the hot rod. His car was far nicer than mine but he was much more enthusiastic about my car being there. We've discussed little things here and there over the years. He is one of the few that never criticized what I was doing or how I was doing it. It's pretty obvious that we've lost one of the good guys. My only regret is that I never told him how much I appreciated his honesty and good nature.

It's hard to believe that someone you have never met in person, can effect you the way that Gary has effected us here. I'm numb. I feel like I've lost a great friend, yet Gary and I had only exchanged a few PM's. I still can't believe he's gone. My heart goes out to his friends, family, community, fellow officers, and anyone else who has had the pleasure of being touched by such a fine individual as Gary. I am at a loss for words.
Gary, you will be dearly missed.
RIP and thank you for all the good you have brought to all of our lives.

I dont know what to say either, I only knew him from here and a few emails over the years but I could tell he was as nice a guy as they come. This outpouring of response, most of which from people who never even met him should say something about his character.
All my best to the family and friends. He made a difference.

Mega dittos with all the previous postings......
I am simply a basket case right now after reading these 17 pages of a tribute to a truly great man. I am not surprised to see how Gary touched the lives of many others in the same way as myself. I met him a few times at the nats and with his wife down here in florida and was always left with the feeling that he was someone that you could look up to and learn from. His leadership, compassion and trustworthyness are so rare to find. Godspeed Gary TBF Mark Selby

I don't know what to say, I'm in shock. My condolences to his family and he'll truly be missed.

I only met Gary once at Norwalk, the night before the dougnut race[cop vs cop] The way him and Fran[10secGTX] were ripping on each other[in a good way]was funny, but in good taste.I could tell that he was a good guy.He even introduced himself to me. Gods speed to you Gary, and a thank you to all the people in blue, for making our lives a bit safer

The first I heard of his departure was on the banner of moparts. I guess that's fitting since he devoted so much of his time, leisure and energy to these forums. He's in irreplaceable presence on these boards and by the sounds of it, just about everwhere he went.
Gary, I'm sorry I never got the chance to know you personally, but I always admired you for having the courage to wear that uniform. I always loved that car of yours and always will. It was fitting that such a great guy could have such a great car. Everyone here is going to miss you greatly.
Good bye...

Things will never be the same again Bubba, I can only relate how I felt when my life long friend died while on his vacation celebrating his 10th wedding anniversary.
We were as close as two normal men could be and I still can't think of him without falling apart, and don't see the day that will change, I'm not sure I want that day to come.
I got a call at work from my sister that Mark (my friend) was in the hospital and they didn't think he would survive, my world fell apart in that moment, I lost it and there was nothing I could do, I was shaking so bad they sent me home.
When Mark and I were young we talked about a lot of things, one of them was that we would be together when the end came just like we were when both of are Fathers died with in a month each other, we were only 15 at the time.
I made the trip to Florida in record time and was in Marks room at 3:30 AM, where I put a guitar pick in his hand that he had given me some 20 years earlier, I can't say with certainty that he knew I was there, but we did play all of our favorite songs that night just like we did growing up playing in the bars around Detroit.
That guitar pick is somewhere in the gulf of Mexico, a tribute to a free spirit that loved the ocean.
Marks wife gave me his favorite guitar, to this day I've not been able to take it out the case and play it, but that day will come and I look forward to moment.
While my life will never be quite the same, Mark lives everyday in my heart and memory's just as Gary will in yours, be proud you were blessed with such a good friend
Ed

I just got on the board and saw the news. As with many others on this board, I am shocked at the news. I never met or even emailed Gary but I feel like I atleast knew him. I enjoyed his comments and thought highly of his advice. If his family reads this, I pray that the Lord God grants you comfort and peace in this tragic loss of Gary. My prayers are with you. id like to thank Gary for helping me, even in his death. im going through some very trying times in my life right now. the post here and all the kind words given to him, especially those that never met him in person, make me realize that even the toughest things i go through are trivial compared to what im sure his family is faceing in the near future. 4 hours ago i started reading page 1. the old saying " i never met a man i didnt like" came into my mind while i was reading and sniffling. seems Gary affected so many that when Will Rogers said it Gary must have been listining.
Thumbs up Gary Davis!! youll be missed as much as you were loved. though i never met you, i speak from the bottom of my heart. R.I.P.
