I have a 426 HEMI block cast in 10 10 66 with WT & A on the engine ID pad and NM4262280022 stamped on the "Starter ear" down on the oil pan face what do these Numbers mean?

Thanks Brian

NM42622800022

That is the date it was assembled which decodes as October 25, 1967. This means that it was originally built and installed in a 1968 model year Hemi car. The VIN sequence should appear stamped into the top of the blocks rear trans mating flange adjacent to the oil sender unit hole.

That is one of the best 1968 block stampings that I have seen... usually they are more like this:

I'll have to check out the VIN # after it comes back from the shop, its getting cleaned. What does the NM mean before the 426?

Thanks Brian

Pretty sure that NM is the plant code.

I'm guessing that is a mis-strike on the ID number. MV or MN was the Marysville engine plant.

WT means water test, A means .020 over the spec bore size. Back in the day, Chrysler rarely threw anything away; they'd fix bores, bearing sizes, lifter bores, and guides to use a block casting.

I've seen more than one of the '68 and later Hemi blocks with the 'MN' prefix on the ID # so I would say that Hemis were built there. Was that the only plant? I thought that Mound Road built them too but I can't find any examples of this.

Hemis were only built at Marysville (MN or MV), not at Mound Road (PM,GM,HM)...

I just got back the Hemi block from the shop today from getting a good cleaning and I don't see any numbers stamped on the top of the back of the block for the VIN, could this be a over the counter block?

Thanks Brian

No. With the assembly stamping on the bottom of the motor, this started life as an engine, not a bare block.

Maybe the engine block was never stamped? Should the enginge ID pad have something else stamped on it?

Thanks

If the only thing on the ID pad up top is WT and A then it's more than likely an over the counter short block assembly and wasn't a production line install.

Is there a small , 1/8" maybe , blind hole near a freeze plug ?

It would probably be best to start posting pics of each side of the block and any machined stamp pad areas with markings.

Great shot, good high res pic. A similar shot of the other side, the rear, the front, and the bottom, plus of course the machined areas with numbers stamps would be helpful

Well, my numbers matching block for my '68 Charger only has WT & A (actually T W & A)...

I bought the car in about 1977...
