My broadcast sheet is coded for a S81 steering wheel but I am not sure what it looks like. I have been doing research but all the 1971 Charger pictures I've seen either have the simulated woodgrain wheel center or a Tuff wheel. The decoding books say it is a padded wheel. Can anyone tell me what it looks like? If anyone has a S81 wheel could you post a picture. Thanks!

Yeah, I've seen that but I have never seen that S81 wheel on any 71 Chargers, only woodgrain or tuffs.

Yes but I have never seen a Charger with that wheel, this is why I am asking again to see if anyone here has a 71 Charger with that S81 wheel.

of course... is the MOST SEEN AND AVAILABLE WHEEL on any Mopar, not just Chargers.

This specific pic is with DODGE badge instead the tristar, but is the same wheel indeed

This is the only wheel besides a tuff(code S84) or a wood grip wheel(code S83) I have seen on 71 Chargers.

That is NOT the wheel I am talking about, the S81 wheel in the option picture above shows a black center with a small round symbol in it, the one I see has woodgrian center which is not even shown as a option.

BUDDY, THATS THE WHEEL... the only diff is the center trim according with woodgrained car or not.

My uncle does have his dart with the black center and tristar. IS INDEED THE SAME WHEEL

OK........Let try this again......the option decoders show 2 S81 wheel options for 1971 Charger.

S81 69-71 strg whl-woodgrain sports EXC:
S81 71 strg whl-DELUXE PADDED B-BODY

The way I read this is there was a DELUXE PADDED wheel on B-BODY only, or am I read this wrong?

this could it be the padd for 70 models
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/70-Mopar-...d=p4506.c0.m245

But in years I just have seen the wheels on brochure with the diff noticed on the center trim on some models that looks to be mounted to match with interior options, being the 2 spokes one just on tilt columns.

the black center is not a pad, is simply a plstic trim just like the simulated woodgrain. is teh one on my uncle's dart

Actually, it is. When you ordered a 71 Charger Coupe with the standard steering wheel (S81 option), you got the steering wheel with the horn button in the center. When you ordered a 71 Charger, Charger SE, Charger 500, Charger R/T or Superbee with the standard steering wheel (S81 option), you got the steering wheel with the three horn bars (as pictured above).

But what I am trying to say is I have never seen the all black padded wheel on any 71 Chargers, the simulated woodgrain center and the tuff wheel seems to be the dominant wheel.

You're correct because the S81 Wheel with the padded horn center was only available on coupes. Coupe production was not very high, so it makes sense that you would not see many of them.

I had a '73 Charger Coupe with that wheel - I actually liked it better than the Hardtop S81 wheel.

Thanks! That answers my question.
