P.S. it rocks.
I was just wondering if it had alot more power than a single 4 bbbl as I was considering piecing together one if so
Like anything else it depends on the set-up...it won't do any worse that's for sure. Plus it looks cool.

[quote a good single 4-barrel on a decent intake will put a 6-pack on the trailer 9 times out of 10. The 6-pack intake has some flow problems that are almost impossible to deal with.
Reason being most are unfamiliar with properly tuning a sixpack set up otherwise... a properly tuned sixpack set up will match/beat a modified 4 bbl set-up Also, the 6-pack flow rating if compared at the same pressure drop as a 4-barrel would be 850 cfm.
That "flow" rating comparison would be more apt to be around 930-950 cfm
R.
That's what I was thinking more like 950ish. When I bought this unit I had zero 6-pack working expierence. It's not as hard as you think as long as you follow the tuning tips here and from holley. I don't have any fancy metering blocks or anything. I'm looking to get into the 11.teens on the 29th, and after winter upgrades to 2" headers I think It will pull 11.0's or better. I say pull out the wallet and go get it done. P.S. It will dead KILL the Eddy 800 thunder or other, wouldn't even be close.

I read an article a few years back in one of the magazines where they compared the Six Pack set-up against a few different 4-bbl. set-ups.
The two magazine shootouts I have read show the Edelbrock Performer RPM & Holley 4-bbl. carburetor set-up being dead even with the Six Pack set-up when they were both dialed in on the engine dyno.
$500.00 shipped = Holley ultra series double pumper. (All aluminum lightweight carburetor with billet metering blocks & baseplate, clear sight glasses, ...) $250.00 shipped = Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake manifold $350.00 shipped = Reproduction 340/440 large oval air cleaner $100.00 shipped = Reproduction large oval air filter element ($1,200.00 = total)
$2,400.00+ = Six Pack set-up (Intake manifold, carburetors, linkages, fuel lines, air cleaner & filter, ...)
Is the 'wow factor' worth double the cost to you?!?

Yes only thing that draws more attention is a Hemi, And I can't afford one of those.

Absolutely right. So it really breaks down like this;
6 pack advantages;
- power while still a stock setup - fits under N96 hoods - "wow" factor as mentioned.
RPM/Holley advantages;
- cheaper - only one carb to mess with
......Choice is up to the individual......but as I said, the 6 pack is an amazing STOCK setup. If this hobby was all about speed for the money, we'd all be driving 440 powered A bodies (yes, with 4bbls!!)

You need to rethink the cost of the reproduction oval element, since they are no longer in production those that have them, and know it, will be hard pressed to let one go for $100 ...

true rating for a six-pak is 1030cfm. a big 4bbl on a dual plane intake making big power gains over a six-pak is insane.
actually the rating is - 500cfm for EACH outboard + 350cfm for the center. that would be 1350cfm. and the seat of the pants effect when they kick in is amazing to say the least!

Yeah, magical thinking strikes again! The 2-barrel carb ratings are at 3" Hg depression, the 4-barrel at 1.5" Hg. So to convert flow from 2-barrel terms to 4-barrel terms you have to divide by the square root of 2. The ACTUAL combined CFM of the three 6-pack carbs, RATED AS A 4-BARREL, is 955 cfm.
Now on to the article that Dpelletier referenced. The engine was a 383. You don't have to be a Mopar nut to know that 383 and 440 intakes are different. But given that the article was about 383 intakes, the results are somewhat favorable for the 6-pack. In average over 2500 - 6000 rpm it made the highest torque by 1 lb-ft over the Torker 383 and tied the Torker 383 in average horsepower. In peak horsepower the 6-pack was beaten by the TM6, Performer RPM, Victor 383, Torker 383, Weiand High Ram single 4-barrel, Street Dominator and the M1 Single Plane. So it seems that there is truth in the contention that a good single 4-barrel will make more power on a good manifold.
There are flow problems inherent to the 6-pack design that limit its power potential on larger or higher revving engines. Here's a quote from the referenced article: "We've seen this intake lose a lot of power compared to modern four-barrel intakes on bigger engines or ones with more rpm, but it seemed we just hit a really happy spot with our little 395ci big-block under 6,000 rpm."
