Does any body have a cool easy tip to repair the coating on the fire wall wire loom clips , mine are falling apart and i would like to put a coating back on them before i repaint the engine bay on my SuperBee .
I was thinking maybe the plastic pliers handle coating or flexible 3m heavy drip sealer smoothed with a finger. any Help here would be appreciated. Thank You CJ.

Someone on the General board was just talking about liquid electrical tape. That might work in this instance. Otherwise you'll have to use Plasti-Dip.

Might want to check if the rubber like tool dip coating is paintable.

Paintable body seam sealer would be better than the tool dip stuff I'd think. You can use wax and grease remover to smooth it out even when it's almost dry.

Another idea would be to use JB-Weld. Tough and paintable as well.

Maybe you can just replace them. I don't know if this will work for you, but...

I bought a Goodmark firewall panel, and it had some goofy clips on it. On the original panel, I drilled the spotwelds from the back that held the original clips. On the Goodmark panel, I removed the goofy Goodmark ones and drilled a hole where the originals should go. Then, with a helper to hold them tight to the new firewall, I plug-welded the original clips on from the backside.

So, if you have access to a doner car or firewall, or can find one, get the original clips from it (cut them out?) and use those.

...I used this stuff called Dip-it by Rustoleum. You can get it at HomeDepot or Lowe's. It works well but play with it first because it take a few times before you get it the way you want it.

I used this stuff, I had it on hand from some tool handles I coat, and it look exactly like what I cut off the loom.
Plasti-Dip

Another trick is to get some black shrink tubing of a size that will stretch over the tab. Once in place heat it to shrink tight then neatly trim off the end flush or just over the end of the tab. THEN paint on a thin coat of plasti-dip over the top of the entire rubber areas and over the end a bit. It turns out looking very original with some practice.

The coating is a vinyl plastisol. Plasti-dip is very similar, but it dissolves in gasoline, acetone, and other solvents. Years ago I found a source, but you could buy it in 55-gallon drums only, so I gave up.
