I'm building a '71 340 'cuda that will mainly be stock except I want to upgrade the cam a bit. The engine will have KB 9.5:1 pistons, stock J heads, iron intake w/ TQ carb, and stock exhaust. 4 speed with 3.91 axle from the factory. I want a fairly smooth idle and good vacuum so nothing too extreme. The cams I'm considering are:

1. Mopar Purpleshaft P4452761AE 268-272 Duration .450"/.455" Lift
2. Comp Cam Xtreme XE256H 256-258 Duration .447"/.455" Lift
3. Comp Cam Xtreme XE262H 262-270 Duration .462"/.470" Lift
4. Lunati Voodoo 60401LK 256-262 Duration 454"/.475" Lift

Anyone have experience with any of these cams, and if so would you recommend for what I'm building? Any other cam recommedations?

Thanks

I'm going to build a similar 360. I purchased the MP cam you listed. Engine isn't together yet, so I can't give you my own experience with it, but it was recommended to me.

The specs on the Lunati look good, too.

It's Swifty! Swifty, you toad sucker!

The Lunati Voodoo's are nice cams. I would look at the 60402 as well. It will get you 17 plus inches of vacuum with a nice idle and a very strong, smooth power band.

Troy Bray put a comp XE268 in his Challenger T/A. Stock exhaust and ran the power brakes fine. I've riden in it and it was strong. Idled very nice. Started nice, totally tame street manners.

Go bigger , you won't regret it . Comp or voodoo 268 , I,ve ran both on mild builds .

Bob Karakachian (mrsixpack) offers the repro of the original 68-4spd, special grind, 340 cam. If you email him and tell him your specs, he'll help you 100%.

The Bob K cam is terrific, get it if you can. I have used every mopar HYd cam offered except the small ones ones and the Bob K cam works better on the street then all of them. Smooth idle and power all the way threw 6K. Too expensive the comp 268 works very well also
