Is the corret finish matte or semi-gloss black?

The factory finish is "gloss black",...the factory "cheesy" looking gloss black... which can be on par with some of the 'semi-gloss" blacks today

Rattle can finish is what they looked like, it wasn't fancy even though we like them to look fancy.

I used Krylon semi flat black. Don't know how correct it is but it sure looks nice to me.

You can use a rattle can gloss black. it will dull down ever so slightly once it goes thru a few heat cycles

Rattle Can Semi-Gloss works fine, but my suggestion is to go anywhere that sells (auto paint)...not Orielly or Autozone.. and buy a can of the following paint:

Trim Black made my SEM... it comes in a tall white and purple can.

I like to powder coat these items. They get handled around so much that a durable finish is almost a must if you want it to look good for a loong time. The coater I use has a finish that is like 65% gloss and is perfect for these types of parts.

I really like the SEM trim paint but didn't think there was enough gloss to match the correct finish.
