Hi folks.. I've been thinking of doing a pistol grip in my 67 Barracuda (A-904) when I put in the console and I'd like to get a feel for what options are out there.. So far as I can tell, we have

Gunslinger (not hip on the trigger, myself)
Harms (no pics on the website.. Scott Smith, can you post some?)
Duncan Motor Sports Shift-R-Arm and Shift-R-Gate

...Anyone else?

So far as I can tell, The Shift-R-Arm is the most complete because it will bolt in to replace the arm of the shifter.. Then I add whatever top piece I want (fits the common shifter threads).. But, the cost is starting to make this project a bit more of a "what I want for Christmas" sort of project..

I've also toyed with the idea of taking my $13 junkyard B&M Star Shifter and grafting a pistol grip shifter on it.. For shifting out of park, etc, I was figuring on installing 4-speed pedals and rigging up a switch to the clutch pedal which triggers a solenoid that pulls the linkage up.. (normally that part is controlled by a t-handle in front of the shifter)..

Any thoughts here? I doubt the star-shifter would fit the factory console without butchery so thats a last resort.. Its a ratchet-type shifter when pulled into a selection below low gear so that might also be awkward for when the shifter is mounted.. I don't know about what angles would work.. (I'd have to mock it up in wood or sheet metal or something..)

Thanks in advance..

Raj

That handle looks beautiful.. Does it attach to the stock A-body console shifter? (I don't have a factory slapstick shifter in the car)..

There's two auto pistol grip shifters on the market. There's the one like resto rick sells and there's another called the gunslinger, I think. Anyway, the one resto rick sells has the tilt-forward look/feel and is a very nice looking piece. However, it has no shift button on it. Instead of pushing a shift button like on a T handle, you have to physically push down on the entire handle, so in essence, the entire handle itself is the shift button.

Then the other pistol grip shifter on the market has a trigger at the front to use to change gears. The major downside to that unit is it doesn't have the tilt forward design of the handle like the other unit. It just sticks straight up, which I don't really care for.

Yes... there's three variations to fit: 1. 70E body, 2. 71-74E & B body, 3. Abody & pre-71B body.

Rick is it $240 just for the handle???

I seem to remember the handle only being like 30 bucks at Scott's place but the whole swap over kit was like $230.

Just asking for some clarity. Thanks

Yes, $239 for the handle "assembly"

You may thinking of the grips being $30?

So, if I'm reading this right, the handle is a slip-fit over the existing A-body console shifter, with the center cable mechanism screwing into the bottom piece.. So when the handle is pushed down its activating that cable (normally done by depressing the button) and voila-- shifting..

So far, of all the options I like that one.. It doesn't replace the shifter's original shaft look (I wasn't too hip on changing the handle over to a flat style shifter.. it seems ... flimsy looking?).. Does it stand up to slap-stick style ratchet shifting?

And, does anyone make the little plastic cover piece for the shifter (it covers up the path of the shifter)? After that, the only thing left for me to do is weld in the brackets (got them today!) and get the under-tunnel linkages set.. Bam!

yep, you got it !

Slap shifting no problem... you can do the same
things as a stock shifter.

I've seen the slider strip offered somewhere...
BE/A maybe?
