I was thinking about buying a 70 Challenger because I think they are cool. I used to own one in 1974.

Now when looking in them and sitting in them, the seating height or lack of seems so unusual.

Almost like sitting in a go kart.
I also feel like am sitting in a deep bath tub as the seat seems very low.

The position of the steering wheel and all seem off because of this.

Do any of you e body owners have problems with this set up.
Does not look to be designed with comfort in mind.

To me, after driving newer trans ams and other sporty cars that had the seats that sat low, I really don't notice nor does it bother me. Now if you go from a truck to an e-body, then it's very noticeable.

I suppose that is the issue, I have been driving Rams the last 30 years.
I remember in 1974 I thought it was cool. I was 21 then, now 58

Find and add a six way seat adjuster, it makes a world of difference.

I find mine to be too high, and not slide back far enough. This puts the steering wheel too close for my liking. A bit of recline would be nice to have.

If the back of the seat mounts could be lowered a half inch or so, I think it would be perfect. By the looks of it, the floor-pan will have to sectioned because the seat tracks are flat with the floor.

Six way is the only way, fortunately my challenger has one. I feel like Im sitting at a kitchen table driving my dads Barracuda without one.

I felt the same way about my Scamp. The previous owner added '70 highback buckets and they always felt a little low compared to my '69 Swinger bench seat. When I redid the seats in the Scamp, the spacers were missing from under the seat rails. They make reproductions now so I installed them when I refinished the tracks. I also had new foam installed when I had the seats recovered. Between the foam and the spacers, it probably added a good 3 inches. It feels totally different sitting in it now, like a new car. I don't know if you can see much of a difference in the pics, but you can definitely feel it.

It happens. Before I rode my Stealth (which really sits low) I was driving my mom's Mitsubishi Montero and once I sat in that Stealth I felt like I was shrinking. Even when I sat in my friends 97 Eclpise a couple months ago (stock height) compared to my 2011 Scion tc, I felt I was low. Then I got used to it.

Are the spacers under the seat tracks? Most are broken and missing by now.

depends if the padding is worn flat also...but, you are correct that the steering wheel and seat position seems a little off.. it's worse when you have a bench seat...ask me how I know....

I'm running a '70E. The basic design of the car sets the driver low. With the seat set up correctly, the wheel and pedals seem to work fine however. Mine originally had the OE high back buckets. When I got the car they had new foam and covers. Height was OK but I found them to be lacking in both lateral support and back support.

I installed a set of Scat "Ralley" buckets (Summit). Scat makes a mounting bracket specifically for the E which has 3 mounting height settings. I used the lowest setting to get the driving position - especially the seat height to steering wheel relationship - I wanted.

I'm only 5'5" so I literally can't see a damn thing out of a typical e body . Very uncomfortable, but the looks are undeniable....

Another comment in setting up driving position. Steering wheel height is somewhat adjustable by shimming the top mounting bracket. The U bracket that clamps the upper part of the column to the dash frame has long studs and often has shims under the bracket. Add or remove shims (washers) to get the steering wheel where you want it. When you do this, it will also be necessary to loosen and adjust the mounting plate on the firewall to maintain column and steering shaft alignment. The floor plate is adjusted so the steering shaft is centered in the column tube where it enters the engine compartment.

I wonder if anyone has devised a way to recline the e-body seats without permanently messing them up.

1968 Charger project. I don't have a fender tag or a buildsheet, so it's getting a 440. Help me decide on a color--most everything looks great! (NOT white. My Challenger is white. Need some variety :D)

I used the stock seat mounting spacers under the front only. It did help recline it a bit.

I just see the tracks with the studs sticking out on mine. I guess I could shim the front studs with a few washers and see how big a difference that makes.

I picked up a couple sets from RT Specialties or Dale's 'Cuda Shop or somewhere.

My seats have new foam. I wish they sat a bit lower as my head is up close to the headliner, but with the spacers adding to the the recline, i'm used to it.
