Check this one out! I'd call it a factory mis stamp, appears that this one was put on with a pneumatic stamping gun that went all "Machine Gun Kelly" on this trannys A**

Great photo Scott, if it is yours I would love to use it on the factory error pages of HH.

My '63 core support:

Hard to see but the first one was mis-stamped so they stamped it again!

My '71 Barracuda, despite being all orignal paint and never having been apart, had no VIN anywhere on the core support.

The bottoms of the 3s 5s & 9s are similar , so those are "best guesses".

How would a potential buyer of your car be able to verify that an engine block or transmission is numbers matching if they're so messed up and unreadable?

This the original 18 spline to a '71 GTX I owned. Not as bad as the others posted though

Very good point.

The block is easy to read fortunately.

As for the trans they'd be in the same shoes I was in...and it didn't matter that much to me since everything else was so original. Talking to the original owner added confidence that it was the original trans. I'll just take a sharpie and write the #'s on it and I plan to leave the #'s as is.

I just saw a 70 Hemi Cuda with numbers stamped on the rough casting right ABOVE the machined pad. Faint but readable.

And... it turned out to be number matching motor, std bore. That owner was OE bearing and all.

I heard of a 69 340 Swinger with number stamped on the oil pan rail lip. They missed the motor entirely.

Here's a manifold off a early production 70 440-6 Cuda, appears to be dated in 59?

Here is another strange one. Bought a 1972 B-body from the original owner. It is a 340 with a 4speed. THe trans looks like the ones already posted and the engine has no stamping. The date on the front of the block shows it was done about 3 months before the car was built which is about right. Don't know if it was a warranty block put in before it left the plant or if it was never stamped. The original owner insist's that it is the original drive train. What do you guys think?
