I'm doing some final torquing of bolts and service manual says 50 ft/lbs for the 4 spd transmission to bellhousing bolts. It doesn't specify between aluminum or steel belhousing and I was wondering if the torq specs are the same for both. Don't want to strip the aluminum threads.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks....Joe

'77 FSM says 50 ft/lbs for Trans to Clutch Housing bolts, regardless of steel or aluminum trans and/or bellhousing.

73 would have had alum. bell housing whether a big block or a small block so I think your are good to go with that spec. Not sure about /6 or pickups though.

It would only matter if the bolt was threading into aluminum, it's not. The bellhousing to block bolts thread into the cast iron block.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

same basic question is asked of the torque for the six pack aluminum and cast iron intake manifolds and it's the same because the bolts for both manifolds are torqued into the cast iron threads of the engine block; no threads in the manifold (or housing).

It does matter, not bolting to block. that has already been done and torqued. Bolting Trans to Aluminum bell housing. But I agree with what you posted.
