My girlfriend's Jeep Liberty's (2004) a/c went out before the hot weather started. It worked last year. Could be as simple as needing a freon charge? or is it more complex? I've never worked on air conditioning before. Any help would be appreciated,

if it went out suddenly, i'd suspect a leak. a good a/c shop will check it for free. you could always do it yourself, with an a/c leak detector kit. comes with a can, filler and a uv light to find the leak.

What are the symptoms?

My 2002 liberty's AC went, it was a slipping clutch on the AC compressor.

$20 got me a new clutch friction cover, 10 mins work, and been good for 2 years.

Mechanic wanted $900 to replace compressor, drier etc....so diagnose it before they rape you...I think you can pick up compressor, filter and drier kit on the bay for around $300.

Hey thanks for the advice. I'll look into both suggestions...

We used to check for pressure in them first. Then we evacked the system and pulled a vacuum. If it held we charged and checked for leaks. If they leaked we re evaced the system as its illegal to fill a system that has a leak.thanks feds. There are a few sealrs that will seal small leaks and do a great job.Rocky
