I am replacing a lot of panels on my cuda, including the firewall. I would like to know what are the best/proper-application sealers to put 'between' the panels, (as they are being assembled) and also what to apply over the inside gap once the panels are welded together.

I've seen that the original stuff that oozed out from between panels has a somewhat porous look, like some kind of expanding sealer.

A local supply guy suggests 3m 8505, but I'm not convinced that will meet all the different requirements.

What say you all?

Thanks very much.
Clay

Do not use that 3M 8505 Fast n Firm stuff for seam sealing. I just spent alot of time removing it from my car because it dried hard and cracked. Read my previous post for other options.

A good friend of mine is a professional body shop man and he recommended a product made by Lord Fuser available at some NAPA stores. It's not cheap, [ $15.00 a tube ] but this stuff works. If you get it on your hands get it off quick or it will have to wear off.

Thanks for the responses.

Regarding the 8505, did you use it as out of the tube, or did you apply some thinner to it to smooth it?

Thanks.

Like already mentioned, do not use the 3M fast and firm if you want to put it on thick and sloppy like the factory, it shrinks and cracks a lot when it dries.

Wurth Brushable will never crack and goes on extremely smooth. Dries fast.

In a toob, try Crest Qwik Seam. It also dries fast and hard.

Both are very high quality products and none of them have ever cracked on me like....3m.

What's that front end setup? What kind of cost for something like that?
