If the Pertronix I just electronically switches the coil pri on/off like the points mechanically did then I think elim the ballast would overload the coil the same as it would by doing it on a stock points setup but I would contact them or Scratchnfotraction in Florida would know if he sees this. EDIT if you are dead set on elim the ballast I'm sure there's a canister shaped coil available that's designed for full 12V that could be painted black and yes you would (w that coil) run a wire (iirc Scratch said #10 is plenty) behind the ballast to bypass it or toss it & connect the 2 wires that were on the end(s) of it
