I guess it comes from experience, I have a beautiful black '71 RS Camaro that I did base/clear when I was doing bodywork full time. 3 wet coats of clear, over BMW black base, wet sanded with 2000 grit, polished, bla bla bla......... and I am always paranoid to drive it. In 20 years it has only gathered 2 chips, and they might has well have been caused by a baseball bat, because the aggrivation just was not worth it. So I am a lot less fussy these days, with the multitudes of mirror finish cars at shows these days, who cares? My theme now is to make them look new, not perfect. Just my
