Oh boy "SILICON" the "Cure All" for leaks and probably the Most misused automotive product on the shelf -> I think one of the biggest mistakes when using silicon type sealer is torquing the part down right away No matter how little you use you should snug up everything first and then do a final torque after the sealant has cured...The longer the better!....Now gaskets vary and thats where silicon can help you out but misused and you might as well leave the gasket out all together! I Always let the sealer set up before doing a final torque/tightning of an assembly.....No leaks 99.9% of the time
