How did the engine run before?

You say its been sitting a 'couple of months' without use, was it actually a couple of months, or more like a year?

I could think of a couple of internal issues that would cause hunting, but, you shouldn't have them on a 'fresh' carb.

Along the lines of internal issues, what kind of gas are you using? Any additives? (thinking maybe a gasket was damaged by chemical reaction).

TQ's aren't that hard once you get over the initial fear of the unknown.

For that matter, how much experience do you have working on any carb??
