I'm having the same problems with an 8.75" 4.11 SG setup. It was recommended to me by member dvw that I do this since I've got the pig out. Haven't done it yet though, too much school...

Howling on decell only indicates a problem on the coast side pattern. Either its set up wrong now or was set up wrong previously. Gear sets are lapped at the factory. Changing the point at which they run can try to wear a new pattern. You can tell by running a pattern check. Load the ring gear by using a pry bar between the ring gear and case, then rotate in both directions. If the marking compond is removed from the outer edges of the concave side of the teeth,it will make noise on decell. If the pinion depth and backlash are correct sometimes you can make slight adjustments to help. You would be amazed how much .002-.003 backlash can make. At worst either run it or you will have to replace the gear set. Howling seldom causes a problem if its not severe.
