I have the steering wheel off. but I don't know what to test. Could it be the switch even though the brake lights work?

the brake pedal switch sends fire to the TS switch via one wire which sends it to both brake lights in the rear(2 seperate wires)(R&L) & when you push the stalk down it keeps the right side brake light connected but opens the left side & redirects it's current to the TS flasher which intermittently opens/closes & sends current back to the TS switch & out to the drivers rear brake light(the large filament). The brake lights and the turn signals use the same large filament in each 2 filament bulb it just makes one side intermittent depending on which way(up or down) the stalk is pushed so yes eyeball the TS contact points carefully(and w your VOM) see whats not making contact that should be.
