I have the same problem and thought about drilling a hole in the cap, but as mentioned, the vented cap is designed to let air in, not out. I would definitely get another cap and check your vent line.

You should have a nipple on the filler tube that is connected to a line that exits through the trunk floor. This will let the pressure release.
