I would never use the SB Chevy racer trick of grinding on the starter to spin the motor over long enough to make oil pressure, NEVER
I do prime all my new motors with a 1/2 drill motor and then spin the motor over with all the spark plugs out with oil pressure to ensure all rotating parts get oiled before starting
On your deal I would pour some oil down the oil pickup while holding it and use the proper size Allen wrench to spin the pump over to suck that oil into the pump and let it squirt out the passage going to the main cap oil passage
Don't forget to use a new gasket and torque both bolts down
