Can you have it just shipped across the boarder, and then road trip it home???

Only the buyer or a broker can bring it across.

Many Canadians will bring cars to U.S. shows for sale. If they tell the border they're taking it to sell they are turned away at the border. If they keep their yap shut and get it to the show and cut a deal then the car MUST come back to Canada and the buyer must then come to Canada to pick it up or arrange a broker. And FWIW, these same rules apply to Canadians importing a car from the U.S.

Is it really that long to get a passport ?? Only a couple or three weeks wait up here.

Actually, there is a way to bring it over for sale at a show. It's been a while since I've seen it personally. They used to call it a Temporary Importation Bond. They would basically treat it like a commercial entry and when it left the US, they cancelled the entry and no duty was collected. If the vehicle stayed in the US, it would have the paperwork forwarded to the purchaser and they were able to register it in the US.
