I remember seeing Don Garlits go off the left side of that track after the finish line into a bunch of standing water and tearing up that car some, maybe doing several slow roll overs in the water puddles, the week before the Winternationals that year, maybe 1980/1982 era. He had repaired it and had it running for the Winternationals the next week, but I don't think he qualified it, maybe he did confused
I also remember seeing Gordie Bonin wreck his funny car at the Winternationals crashing it into the west side guard rail and then rolling it sideways on the guardrail a bunch of time shedding the body, motor, rear end and the fuel and oil tanks. It stop right side up, once it stop rolling he unbelted and ran up into the west side grand stands very fast up He never ls lost sight of what to do to survive that crash bow up
