There is a slot in the shifter you can put a 1/8" allen wrench in to adjust it. If you put it in neutral and can't get the allen all the way through then it is out of adjustment and you need to adjust the rods that are out...

The funny thing about science is that if you change one miniscule parameter you change the entire outcome to the way you want it.
