I've welded in bungs into tranny pans as well as tap aluminum tranny pan bosses for the temp. senders.
I saw a post on the CTD site years ago about installing the sender in the front servo (there is a NPT plug at the top to use for pressure readings, install it (electrical senders) in that hole scope up) on the early (1998) automatic O.D. tranny in the CTD trucks, I switch mine after that and saw no differences in the readings shock
That's where I install mine now up
My thinking is you want to know the temps of the fluids circulating through the tranny, not going or returning from the cooler work
