These posts about the fear using sealed type ball bearings on axles really makes me think about where have you guys been shruggy Ford and Toyota trucks have been using the sealed bearing for years with zero issues at all. You can have a sealed bearing in a Toyota or for Ford rear for 200K and NEVER have an issue hauling loads,cornering,or racing.
As stated already make sure you have a seal in the axle housing to keep the hot gear oil from seeping through the axle bearing seal and washing the good bearing lube away from the bearing and it will last a very long time twocents
Tapered roller bearings are obviously BETTER for side loading or carrying heavy loads but not needed for most high performance applications such as a street strip car. The old one piece flange and bearing assembly "Green" brand bearing is probably where they get a bad reputation because those things were junk compared to the factory roller bearings. The new style ones are fine.
