If the car is 11.50 or slower you don't even need a scatter shield to be NHRA legal.

You can modify your bell housing at slower than 11.50 and probably not have an issue.

11.49 and quicker, you need the can and it must be certified (no one ever asked me either) and you can drill a 1 inch hole in the face OR the bottom, not both.

Last time I checked, Lakewood will put a window in and recert it for $275.00 and the guy said if I did ANY modifications to it they most likely wouldn't recert it.

Don't think a blanket would help.
