Yes, the broadcast sheet will tell you the exact transmission in your car. Fender tag and certicard have only the 3 that says 4 speed manual. Another great case for a parts book, it will tell you the specific parts you car and engine size came with: gears, input shaft, front bearing retainer, bellhousing, clutch disc, throw out bearing and sleeve.

Now for an automatic we should all know that there are no 904's behind big blocks.

Talking b-bodies here:
A 66-67 273 had a 904
A 66-67 318 had a 727
A 68-70 318 had a 904
All BB automatics have a 727
A383 2 bbl has a 3 disc high gear drum
A383 4 bbl has a 4 disc high gear drum
All 426 hemi's have a special 727 trans with a 5 disc high gear drum wider 2nd gear band and special parts around it for it to fit in there.

On the fender tag 66-68 for trans for all the different transmission listed above there would be a code 5, denoting automatic, not the specific one. Here is why.

What is the purpose of the fender tag? Why is it there? It tells what the body of the car is. So it only needs to say automatic or manual so the correct tunnel, welded linkage bracket on frame rail, and holes for the clutch pedals are put into the body when building it. Later on the build sheet tells the specific trans, pedals, rear axle to go in the car.

What is the certicard for? Why does it exist? It is for when you go in for warranty work, they put your card in the machine, lay a work order on top and slide the handle across it to print all that info on the work order for your car. Just like a credit card machine pre 1988, you remember those don't you?
