I run both, all the bad stuff happens in the first 50 ft or the last 300 in the 1/4 mile usually
I've broken parts at both ends
My first half seriuos class car would run 95 MPH in the 1/8 and 117 in the 1/4 mile, it was in high gear before the 1/8 so the last 1/8 mile in the 1/4 was about keeping it straight and make a decision to lift or not in the last 30 ft or not
My wife would drive that car and win with it in the Powder Puff races at the local 1/8 mile track, she would not race it in the 1/4 mile
She insisted it was to fast in the 1/4 mile
My current car runs 115 MPH in the 1/8 and 147 MPH in the 1/4, either distance is drag racing
