Okay, so the E-body shifter (I'm assuming that's what is being used in the truck, and not something fabbed up) will work, and I should be able to keep my auto cross member.

No, a truck 833 uses the forward B body mount point with a dog bone type adapter that moves the shifter up and back and has it's own special linkage.
If the trans you have has it going off the rear mount then it's something that was fabbed up. The 833OD with the long tailhousing that had the rear E body shift mount still cast on it did not have the rear bolt holes drilled and tapped.
