Problem solved! Thanks Lefty for making me take another look at grounding. I hooked up a different regulator without mounting it to the firewall and grounded it with a jumper to the engine. Worked. So now I'm thinking bad regulator again. Mounted it to the firewall and now it doesn't work again..... Even though it shows its grounded. So I put a jumper from the regulator to the engine block. Works again. Now I'm suspecting my brand new negative battery cable. Sure enough, the small wire moulded into the post lug has no connection! They must have thought they didn't need to remove the insulation when they stuck it in there.....probably made in China. Guess I better call Frank this time for one....


I struggled with this on my 67 coronet.. Full resto, everything new and after a couple of years of driving something was not right..

Turned out to be a loose ( snug but not tight) connection on my starter relay at the firewall connection.. Tightened up the nut and presto.........
