I am rebuilding a 440 and is about to come out of the machine shop and I am at a cross road. My first idea was stroke the 440 to a 511 from Ohio Crankshaft. Now my friends are telling me it's a waste of money that the stock 440 will make about the same as the stroked 440. they both will have Eddie heads and intake. Whats your take on it?

Your friends must be Chevy and Ford guys, not Mopar knowledgable, me thinks That or they don't want you making more power than them with a stock stroke motor If you want the most power and performance, especially for a strret car, use the 4.250 stroke crank with the 2.20 rod journal sizes(BB Chevy type on both ends ) and a set of 7.100 long 4340 steel beam rods H beam rods with between 10.0 to 10.75 to 1 compression ratio, dependent on your local pump gas quality and type, E10 stay close to 10.0, non ethanol 93 octane shoot for 10.75 to 1 That combination with a Eddy RPM heads and a Eddy RPM intake will easily make(depending on the cam, headers and carb sizes) well over 550 HP and close to 600 Ft lbs torque, or more The stock stroke motor with identicle parts will make around 50 HP less and similar less torque My first pump gas stroker motor, 400 block with 4.375 bore and 4.250 stroke, made 612 Hp at 5500 RPM and 644 Ft lbs at 4400 RPM with a set of big valve mildly ported 906 iron heads(9.25 to 1 comp. ratio on CA 91 octane pump swill a long time ago ) and a low deck six pak set up with a big (for the street ) solid roller cam That rascal far exceeded my wildest expectations That motor made right at 1.2 HP per C.I., you can get similar results too

I have built 3 stroker motors out of 440 blocks a 496 a 512 and a 572 they make more power with out running a 440 to a inch of it's life strokers are the only way to go
