Been welding since. 1982 never heard of waiting for the weld to cool and holding the tip there. A friend of mine is a welder at the ship yard, he builds ships. I'll ask him

Your ship yard friend is stick welding on ships mostly outside. He does not use any shielding gas.

I have a good long time/since hi school pipe welder friend. He is a absolute artist with a stick welder or any welder.

They use multiple types of rods with multiple passes. He welds up hi pressure underground gas lines all over the country now for like 25+ years now.

I learned a lot by watching him weld with a helment years ago on a drag bike. Tig welded everything.

If you can stick weld, then you can tig weld.

And it does sound like your solenoid valve is sticking, my 200 amp, 30 year old hobart mig does not have post flow. My 250 miller syncowave does.

Did you get it fixed yet?
