See attached/annotated photos: I recently just did my parking brake mechanism. The small spring only goes in and attaches one way. It's a tight and slightly difficult fit getting it clipped on where it needs to go. Hold the smaller curled end of the spring with a needle nose pliers, feed it in through the topside, and hook the larger curled end onto the bottom of the latch. Then pull up, twist and hook the smaller end onto the housing. Hope this helps.
