Look at it this way, that $400+ price tag on the oil pan may be saving you damage on a $5000+ engine.

By contrast, you can buy a bolt in super duty rear end for a couple grand.

But it all comes down to how you use your car and how hard you push it. 6500 rpm launches on slicks means the rear end upgrades may be better. Participation in autocross or open road events means the pan may be a better option.
