Wayne, no overdrive needed! However I wouldn't mind one so I could turn the same RPM and be going faster haha.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of overdrives for hot rods that have very much camshaft....why would anyone want their big cam'd motor to be lugging along at 2K while exhaust is running back up the intake tract??

I run a OD trans(518) but on the dyno the other day
I wanted to see when the engine would smooth out and
at 2000 rpm its running smooth... with my calculations
at 75 mph I'd be running 2900-3000 rpm... thats with
a .68 OD ratio

Thing is, that's on the Interstate and most people really don't spend that much time on the Interstate with their big cam'd hot rods so when they're cruising on the highway at 55-60 they're usually in that range....plus it's not like you're going to see a huge mileage gain with something that gets 10-12mpg by using an OD especially when most hot rods are LUCKY to see 2,000-4,000 miles/year....

I don't understand why people are so worried about that extra 500-1,000 rpm when they'd be hard pressed to put 30,000 miles on a car in TEN YEARS.....

If you can't handle the truth, you're living a lie.......
