What the genIII hemi's have going against them is the pistons with high set ring lands and powder metal connecting rods. I would have liked to have seen what the engine in the article would have done with some Manley rods and diamond pistons.

Remember the article in Hot Rod where they did a test similar to this? They strapped two of those chineese 76mm eBay cheapies to a 4.8 LS to see how far it would go before it blew up. It made like 1208 hp and never broke... They ran out of injector before they could break it. Granted, it wouldn't live that long at that power, but it did withstand like 30+ dyno pulls building up to that power level.

The hemi's stock pistons and rods would never hold that. Once most people hit the 500-600 hp mark, the pistons and rods are swapped. BUT, the point of this thread was block strength... so...
