Don't expect it to live forever. But it should be fun!

Gives me a lot of hope for my 6.1 that is getting all good parts and a lot more turbo.

How strong are the blocks.d.5.7-6.1 compared to 400-440?m
with stronger internals would it "live"longer?

The 6.1 with forged lower end, billet caps and arp fasteners can handle in the neighbor hood of 1100 fwhp, then head sealing issues are supposed to show up. I would say a 5.7 wouldnt be all that far behind, but not exactly sure. My best guess would be a 6.1 could probably safely make near 300 more hp than a B/RB. This is just based on what I've heard from others expirience. We shal see when my 6.1 is finished.

My N/A single four barrel carb. 400 block pump gas stroker made 627 HP and 710 Ft Lbs on Oregon pump gas in Klamath Falls on a stingy DTS engine dyno with off the shelf parts Better parts make more power, pick your poison

I suppose the the difference between the two is on the genIII, the heads will not seal before parts break, where as with the B/RB you will probably break the block.

One more thing to add, I am a CAD engineer at Chrysler. Although, I'm now working in the design studio, in my previous life I worked in the engineering side of design. I know how this stuff is engineered and everything that is involved in the design of these pieces.

The big block is a great piece and can handle some pretty impressive power numbers, but it was designed in the 1950's with 1950's technology. The GenIII Hemi was all designed on Catia V5 and has gone through countless hours of testing and computer simulated stress analysis using all the latest engineering tools and technology. This is how you can get an engine today that is much stronger and much lighter. This goes for the the GM LS motors and the Ford mod motors too. All of these stock casted components are withstanding 1100, 1200+ horse power and living to tell about it.

Thank you for the insight..you will have pm!

Re: single turbo hemi - 07/29/12 05:44 PM

What the genIII hemi's have going against them is the pistons with high set ring lands and powder metal connecting rods. I would have liked to have seen what the engine in the article would have done with some Manley rods and diamond pistons.

Remember the article in Hot Rod where they did a test similar to this? They strapped two of those chineese 76mm eBay cheapies to a 4.8 LS to see how far it would go before it blew up. It made like 1208 hp and never broke... They ran out of injector before they could break it. Granted, it wouldn't live that long at that power, but it did withstand like 30+ dyno pulls building up to that power level.

The hemi's stock pistons and rods would never hold that. Once most people hit the 500-600 hp mark, the pistons and rods are swapped. BUT, the point of this thread was block strength... so...

The stock 6.1 crank goes into the 5.7 block or??

Re: single turbo hemi - 08/09/12 02:27 PM

Mopar needs to get with it and come out with better blocks like GM has done with their LSX blocks for these type of builds.

The problem mopar has, is if they come out with better stuff, it'll cost $1,000,000. OR, it'll be next to impossible to get like the aluminum GenIII block and cost more than $1,000,000.
