I build my own engines. Also build my transmissions and rear end. I VERY RARELY farm out anything, but then, I am a heavy truck/diesel mechanic, with over 36 years experince.
My machine work is done by a machine shop less than 1/4 mile from my house/shop. EVERY one of the people that work at the machine shop are racers. I take my parts to them with specific instructions as to what I want done (clearances ect) and the parts are checked/measured by me when I receive them back.
But thats just me. I am amazed all the time by people that I race with that "turn key and push pedal" and can barely change their own oil. When something goes wrong, they take it to someone else to get it fixed.
