Should I follow the procedure mentioned in the manual, or should I try just moving the cover first? I dont have any extra tabs lying around, and im not sure how to distinguish A from B

i just saw now that your diagram has a little blurb of where to grind ...but if I want to do that im thinking the whole transmission has to come out and apart again, which im not looking forward too..hopefully moving the cover will help, if not i guess I have no choice

As has been mentioned the steps that you should take (in this order)

1) Try shifting the cover up slightly to get clearance (this is the first procedure in the FSM)
2) Try the selective fit interlock levers, (this is just changing them until you have clearance, I don't know a current source of these but someone may)
3) Grinding for clearance (this is the last resort and yes, you have to disassemble the trans..try shifting the cover though first, I've only had to grind on one trans in 40 years of doing this)

Good luck
