Guys,
Just installed a crank trigger on the 572 in my challenger.
We set initial timing at 34 degrees advanced and fired it up.it idles at 1100 rpm at 34 degrees but when you whack the throttle the timing will retard by 10 degrees.
I know there is some loss of timing with the timing chain and gears between the distributor gear but I never realized it wAs this much.
Is this normal with a crank trigger and is there a way to compensate for this?

I have a gear drive on mine, but the timing is rock steady. Is your distrib locked?

The dizzy needs welded solid. Make sure to phase the rotor to the cap at the time the crank trigger is making contact.

Yes the distributor is locked out

Not sure what that is, should be rock solid, no movement at all. One thing to try is the polarity could be wrong on the pickup. That will usually cause it it be off because of a leading edge/trailing edge thing but it still should not move

shouldn't move unless you have some kind of retard set up on a timming computer. the distributor not locked won't change the timming just the rotor phasing.

What is the rest of the ignition system?

Does it matter which way the wheel is installed,in order for the wheel to center on the balancer we had to install the wheel with the rotation arrow against the balancer

What's the gap?

Good call on timing not moving with dizzy unlocked. I was tired

I'm a little confused on this one now with the parts u listed. You should be up and running. Try to swap the wheel. It's got an arrow for a reason I guess.

Gap is set at .050

Does the timing stabilize at a higher RPM?

What brand timing light??
Borrow another light, and hook it to a battery not running the car, and confirm reading.

What Billy said is an excellent point. Before panic sets in might be a good idea to "get a second opinion".

Cant think of any logical reason to see what you are seeing. is the Moroso pickup wire shielded? Is the pickup wiring running near anything else electrical, particularly the water pump? Sometimes you can get some unwanted RF that will cause all sorts of crazy things to happen.

I missed the part about the arrow. Would definitely want it installed correctly with rotation. I assume they put them that way for a reason?

Arrow MUST face out, that's the most likely cause of your error.

While your at it check all 4 magnets. All four should either repel or attract. If not the offending magnet(s) can affect that cylinders pick-up.
