I have the opportunity to swap a nice 1971 440 into my Road Runner where a 383 now sits. Plan is to eventually rebuild the 383. Anything I should know about the swap. Can I use the same bell housing, motor mounts, exhaust manifolds, etc? The 440 has the crank drilled for the pilot bushing.

From what I remember it can be a direct swap, just wanted to be sure.

Thanks for the anticipated information.

Yep. Intake and the distributor are on the 440. You are saying the exhaust manifolds from the 383 will work and bolt to my exhaust system?

Thanks for the quick confirmation of what I thought. I'm located in Brick, N.J., near the beach at Point Pleasant.

Only potential will be the exhaust system if you have an H or X pipe , the 440 is wider and the manifolds are about 3/4" higher up .

Dunno if you are planing on use the 440 exhaust manifolds but juts in case I would keep the 383 exhaust manifolds you actually have... the diff on years could make diff flange exhaust bolt holes indexing making don't match with your pipes flanges.
