I have a 23 spline A body unit dated June-73. How can I tell what gearset is in it. It has a 4.35 brg retainer, so I know its not an OD unit. Anyone?

Look at the gears , they may have a number of notches cut across the tips of the gear teeth, but I think a 73 would be a 2.47 first gear.

This might help. I'll try and remember to look at the ones we have in the shed tomorrow.

I thought that the 2.47 ratio was an E body, AAR or T/A application?

I've looked at all that. But its a July 73 unit and every ratio chart I read is different. I'll have to open the unit and look as per the pics on the Brewers site.

Try giving Wayne and Dan Brewer a call...I'm sure you can get it figured out pretty quickly over the phone.

You can count the teeth on the input drive gear: 22 tooth 3.09 low, 24 tooth 2.66 low, or 25 tooth is 2.47 low gear. Could be 3.09 if it came from a 6cyl or 318, 2.47 from 340.

Unfortunately its a 2.47 unit. Trying to figure the most economical way to make it a 3.09 unit.
