Ive run across a run in stand. The stand has only had sb mopars on it, and Im needing one for BBs. Im needing some measurements to see if the stand will work with a BB, most notably oil pan clearance.
I also need the measurment from center of motor mount to center of motor mount, more or less.
Im looking for the measurement from the lower rear bellhousing bolts (trans side) to the pan rail on a BB.
This stand has very little room between the lower bellhousing hole and a support that would be below the pan. It doesnt look like enough room for a deep sump pan to fit. I can always move the rear holes up....I think.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Wish I had a pic to see what your talking about exactly. Most stands can be made pretty universal. I am in the midst of building one right now and am setting it up for big and small chryslers and big and small Chebbies. But one thing I noted in looking what was available out there is to get it high enough away from the frame to clear headers. If it'll clear a set of headers height and width wise, it should be good for even deep pans.
The lower bell mouning holes on a BB are right just above the oil pan rail holes on a BB.
Or did you mean where the trans mounts on the bell housing---those lower holes to relation of the oil pan rail?
From what I have seen of engines in cars, stock pan tp stock pan, the bottom of a BB and SB pan sits in about the sam location in relation to the bottom of the K-frame when in the vehicles.
Don't know if that'll help you at all.

Yes, where the trans bolts to the bellhousing.
That is good info on oil pans (bb and sb) sitting in the same spot.

85 Ram, Thanks for the pic!! If you can get a measurement how far above that hole the pan rail is,that would be great!! It looks like the stand Ive found will work, but it may be close. Also, if you dont mind, what is the measurement from center to center of the towers for the motor mounts? Thanks a million.

As you can see, I mounted my front mounts directly to the cast in ears of the block. My center to center distance is 18", but the tubes for the bolts to go through on top of the square stock are not centered, they are shifted to the pass side of the block to the edge of the square tubing.
I built the main frame with a outside dimension of 2'x 4' . to give you some perspective. Its 1.5" x 3" tubing.
The lower bolt hole on the 833 that I showed in the pic above is approx 2.25"-2.50" below the pan rail.
If you can make the one your getting work for you, grab it if its cheap. I have around $250-300 into what you see so far, but I built it all new and from scratch. I looked at used ones and new ones and decided I liked alot of features of alot of different stands. And I decided I'd probably hack up a used one just to get itto the the point i'd like it, so i'd figure i'd just start from scratch.
But I also plan on offering this as a future service too, so I wanted it built for alot of future use, not just once or twice.
