I THINK i read that they have the large joint , easy to figure out , go to rock auto and check the 2 years .
I just looked , they only list one balljoint in 73 , it's the bigger one .

I have a 73 dart swinger that came with a 198 and 4 wheel 10" drums with small ball joints. I had to change to the large ball joint when I went to '73+ style discs.
Good to know , I'll have to look at rockauto again , I either missed it or their listing is incorrect, which wouldn't surprise me .
I THINK Dr. Diff sells a spacer that goes on the ball joint stud so you don't have to change control arms ????

ONCE AGAIN... I have witnessed in wrecking yards AND owned several 73 and later A bodies with 9 inch front drum brakes, small upper ball joint control arms and small bolt pattern. Some contend that they dont exist. I say that if the factory didnt build the cars this way, then several cars that I have seen were DOWNgraded by someone afterwards. Why would so many people switch to SMALLER front brakes? Highly unlikely.
pppsssstttt ... Did you miss this before you flew off the handle as the DEFINITIVE source ???

There were likely some 73 cars that got what was left behind of the SBP, SBJ set ups. I had one as well.
He didn't say never say never. I can see this being the case with the 9" drum/SBP cars , why make a new spindle for the bigger joint , not that many cars had that brake setup so just use up whatever they had for stock, I'm sure when it was down to a certian level , must have some replacement stock on hand to service cars on the road , no more 9" brake cars with SBP were built.

Definitive source? Ahhh, you give me too much credit! I can give you some background, if you care to read on.... In 1995-2000 I was working on a pet project/home video. The topic was a sorta ripoff of the Dukes of Hazzard, The Fall Guy and my own life mixed into one. In the feature, I bought and wrecked several cars doing the various stunts that were filmed including the 15 car jumps. I used up several K frames, control arms and wheels. To keep the cars moving, I frequented the self service yards alot and observed every A body in the 9 Northern California Pick n Pull yards. Even after finishing that project I continued working on A body cars, buying cheap, fixing and selling. I've got some for free, others I have overpaid. I dont claim to be the foremost expert, but I have seen enough of these cars to form a fair assessment. The latest car I owned with 9" drums was a 76 Dart 2 door. I dont remember the exact build date. Its possible that at some point, one of the previous owners pulled the bigger brakes from the car IF IT ORIGINALLY had them, then swapped in the smaller setup just to make the car a roller, but I'll never know. It all was dingy and caked with grease to the point that it looked original.

John, this is the best way to handle this situation!

I have a '75 Duster with sbp drums. They do exist. Dad has '74 Dart with the same setup as well.
I don't think anybody has said SBP drums weren't around after 72. In fact, the dealer books show /6 cars with drum brakes all the way though production in 1976. Parts books have the drums in them as well.
The federal mandate on disc brakes I believe was only on V8 equipped cars.
The vast majority of 73-76 cars have the big ball joint, PERIOD! There may have been some 9" brake cars that had small ball joint and they are the freak show part of the answer. Per the dealer info, the 9" brakes were supposed to be gone after 1973, 1974 and up, /6 A-bodies should have 10" brakes.
Easy enough to look at the castle nut to determine if it's small or large ball joint. ~5/8 = SBJ, ~13/16 = BBJ.
I'm sure more pontificating will follow.

I know A-bodies through 72 had the small upper ball joint, and were small bolt pattern.
What I need to know(for a friend) is on the 73-up A-bodies, I know the disk cars were LBP and had the larger upper ball joint, But do the sbp drum brake cars still have the larger upper ball joint ? Or the small ball joint ?
Thanks
I just gotta know...what rims are those

They are REV Wheels (Revolution) Classic 100's They are made by REV, but liscensed by American racing. Fronts are 15x6 with 205/60/15 and Rears are 15x7 with 225/60/15.
The wheels in my signature pic are photochopped on the car. But as of yesterday they are actually on my car and I'm totally stoked about the way they look. Heres a pic with them actually on the car.
