Just purchased a new Milodon deep pan with external pick up to install in my Belvedere.
After installing a new main cap girdle and oil pan studs in my 440 for this new pan, girdle and 2 Fel-Pro #1834 fiber/steel gaskets.
Can some of you share your best experiences with your choice of adhesives and methods of installing this set up for a "NO LEAK" install???
The engine is in the car. I have Permatex Ultra grey, black and no tack that brushes on from a can.
Thanks guys in advance!

I like 3m weather adhesive . I put a bead on the oil pan frame rail and lay the oil pan gasket right on top of it.
.nothing on the other side. Less is more. If you use a good gasket and rail is even you should have no leaks. I like a thin film of grease on the block side of the gasket.then up it goes.

Use the gaskets from member Roadhazard...Superformance gaskets don't need sealant.

We use Superformance gaskets and Turbo Action converters/products.

Your speaking of the Yellow 3M, I think its windshield adhesive? Like I mentioned, its a fresh pan so its level and the block has the girdle now, smooth and ready. I did seal the girdle to the block with Ultra grey as well.
As for the grease I do understand that but remember I am using a windage tray as well gaskets on both sides. I assume the fiber/steel gaskets are good quality at $30 ea.
"recommended to torque" these nuts to inch pounds???

With the fel- pro blue gasket you don't need any sealant, those are great sealing gaskets. If you want to just hold it in place , put a couple of dabs on.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I use the yellow 3M also.I use a bit on both gaskets on the windage tray not the pan or block.Let it set up with a few bolts to hold the gasket in place. Then slip it on and install the pan.I did my 65 about 12 years ago.Used the MP gaskets that come with their tray and a Milidon tray.No leaks ever.Dont glue the gasket to the bloc. You will never get it clean if you have to replace the gaskets or pan.On the tray just pull it and use some 3m discs to clean when you change.Rocky

I appreciate the time some of you have taken to help with your experiences. It never hurts to ask what others try or what works.. Sucks to do all that work and have a leak.
I read somewhere that 100 inch sq lbs if you torque them.

I use the same Fel Pro gaskets are your talking about with no sealants at all, put them on and tighten them up In fact I have stack several of them together to get clearances on the stock 6 pak street Hemi 6 quart oil pans to my 4.300 stroker motor No leaks yet

I like to keep my gasket in place on the pan ONLY. Its nice when you take the pan down and the gasket doesn't get ruined.

i do same as above but used edelbrock's gascacinch(sp?). attach the gaskets to both sides of the windage tray and let them set up for an hour or so, then i use white grease liberally on the block and pan sides of the gaskets which helps to seal it and also allows for easy removal. no leaks

I've had good luck gluing cork gaskets to both sides of the windage tray like Dirtybee and others have indicated...being careful not to over-torque the nuts. In fact, I use flat washers and nylock stainless steel nuts on the studs so the nuts won't loosen at the low torque and they look good too! I would install the Fel-Pro fiber steel gaskets dry on ether side of the windage tray. Any nuts will do, the steel inserts in the gaskets prevent over-torqueing.

Not to hyjack the thread but what gasket or sealer, if any, do you guys put between the girdle and the block? Thanks!

Thanks again guys.. I see many of yuou use several different methods and have had much luck in doing so. I will use the 3M to tack onto the windage tray and lightly grease up the other sides. My pan stud kit came with nylok nuts and washers so im in luck with that.

**As for my girdle,I used permatex Ultra Grey between the block and girdle...

Much appreciation to all that helped me here...
