I know this may sound silly to you guys that recreate hemi cars and six pack cars and the 66-67 chargers are a love hate affair but it is what it is and I want to recreate a 66 383 4 barrel charger out of my 66 318 poly car.
I have EVERYTHING out of a 67 car but I dont have the correct air cleaner.
I picked up a 68 or 69 dual snorkel from a GTX but this isnt the correct air cleaner.
So I have a few questions:
What is the correct (california car) air cleaner? Do they make a recreation so I can buy it? If so who?
Anyone have a detailed pic of what air cleaner would be on a 66 charger 383 4 barrel, california car without A/C?
I know I could scour the classifieds and ebay and will if I have to but Ill end up having to restore it anyway so maybe they make a new one like mancini does for the 340s.

what should I expect to pay for one from needing work to pristine condition.
I bought a dual snorkel but it ended up being the wrong one and off a 68 gtx I paid 300 for it..ouch.

nippleless on EBAY - did CA cars use a pcv in '66?
Yes, they had PCV in California.
The reason I don't say where to get air cleaners on the site is that most of them aren't reproduced and I don't know enough about the few that are to recommend them.
Are you going to run an AFB on your "recreation"? You can probably resell the '68 air cleaner you bought.

In 66 California cars received the second step of crankcase control & that consisted of supplying fresh air to the crankcase from the air cleaner housing... So while it's part of crankcase ventilation it isn't the PCV...
I think it the other way around. It's so the stuff from the breather gets sucked back into the carb.

The 66 charger 4 barrel, from what I read, would not have had a dual snorkel air cleaner. I was told the one I bought is/was off a 68 GTX, however, info from Nicks garage indicates different: "1969 383 and 440 4-Barrel. Similar to '68 B-body except for difference in indent on front for A/C clearance. Also, the breather hose comes off the air cleaner body instead of the snorkel." The one I have does have the indent and 11 indents on top, accepts a pie pan (said 440 super commando I believe) but I dont want this one on the car. I paid the guy $300 damn dollars for it thinkin it was the right one. Its not. I know it would fit but I want it to look like a 66 383 charger would have when you popped the hood. Tho I will have to modify anyway to hide a small holley under it but thats another issue down the road. I dont like and never have had luck or patience enough to mess with carters or edelbrocks. Thanks for all the help and input so far guys! This is the air cleaner I am looking for: Im a even going to have my edelbrock dual plane intake and cast aluminum valve covers powdercoated turquoise so you have to do a double take to see it.
