I am working on a custom project that requires radiator clearance. It is a 1939 Plymouth with a 1987 Dodge 360. Is the early 273 water pump snout shorter? Or is there a short water pump available?

Yes, overall length (depth) is shorter. EDIT If you need even more room than that not sure if the MP race (early 273 type) one or there's an aftermarket one also w iirc the outlet on the pass side if either is shorter than the OE 273 pump & not likely & even if they are it wouldn't b much but you can mill the front of the tim cover for some gain there and that's actually a good move as it reduces the vane to the flat recess in the t cover which will make the pump far more efficient & adj your bolt/washer/pulley alignment to compensate of course and an anti cav plate on the vanes works good

I am looking for a shorter pump for the 408 in my Dakota. The one I have is off of a pre 68'and is cast iron. It does fit but the bottom outlet is on the drivers side. If you have any links that would be great!
Thanks
Shawn

I think it would be cheaper to go with a new radiator. Thanks for the info.
