yet another problem with the purple beast, i took my 68'coronet out today to burn alittle rubber, 440/727/3.55 suregrip, i guess i should have known not to use the factory whimpy motor mounts. i have blown out the factory driver's side motor mount.

what do i need to go back with? and do i need to put a chain on the motor? this is not a race car, only a mild street car

Look up "Schumacher Creative Services" They are about @150/pair and they don;t sell them individually. You probably don't want both as you will get vibration (they are very stiff), so use a stocker on the passenger side.
The torque strap is just a different way of doing the same thing--restricting excessive engine movement. Both work.

i am showing the torque strap to be about 80bucks and the poly loc mounts to be 157.00, can you buy only 1 poly loc mount? there is nothing wrong with the passenger side and i have never heard about blowing out the passenger side?

I had to buy 2, still have the 2nd one laying around somewhere. He doesn't sell singles, probably because most people would only buy 1.

if i go the torque strap way because i really do not want pay 157.00 and only use 1, i still have to replace the broke factory mount that is on my car now, right? i wld need to hook up the strap when i replace the factory mount? or can i just had the strap to the motor mount that is already there?

I suppose you COULD use a strap and the broken mount but its really not advisable.

hey Pacnorthcuda, is the other mount that you did not use on your car, will it fit my car? are the poly-loc mounts universal, meaning they interchange from drivers side to passenger side?

i am sorry for the 50questions today, i am just about out of money on this project and really trying to save some bucks, if i have to do then i will have to do it

If you see Schumaccher at a swap meet you can buy one.Steve at Imperial Services also has the.I got the ones for my 65 B and the kids 62 300 from him.I used to tear a mount in about 2 weeks. Now the polys are 5 years old and no problem.I dont have much more vibration than the rubbers had.Rocky

I'm using Dynatech Mighty Mounts. Got them at Spring Fling several years ago. The thing I like about them unlike the Schumacker's mounts, is that they allow the motor to move around like stock rubber mounts, but have a positive lock when fully extended. They are pricey to but look and function like stockers, except for their unbreakable design function.

There are made of tough rubber like the stock mounts, but with two studs that have an angled head on the end which lock into the top plate. There are no movement-limiting, interlocking plates encased on inside the mount like Schumackers's uses.

On the Schumacker mounts once those two interlocking metal tabs are encased in their poly material, it really limits the amount of movement the mount can make.

I'm running a shaker hood and wanted more of the stock type of free play for the motor to shake.

If you need to limit the movement of your motor for hood clearance or other issues and don't want to run a solid mount, Schumacker mounts would be a good way to go.

If you don't want to spend the money to avoid having to use chain or torque straps. You can relatively easily install a chain on the back side of the driver's side motor mount to limit upward movement, while using stock mounts. It's a cheap, effective, reliable and relatively hard to see modification when done correctly.

Notice the stud is too long on this mount, and it's actually touching the block. It stopped the motor from settling down into the K-member slightly. For whatever reason, I didn't pay much attention to it at the time I installed it. I got them warrantied later on and the mounts they sent me to replace them had a shorter stud. I could have just trimmed them down a bit, but if anyone wants them, let me know???

Also, they are side specific, driver's on driver's etc.

I replaced the both motor mounts and trans mount with Schumacher Poly and got rid of my vibrations.

update, i forgot how much trouble it is to put motor mounts in a car,
PIA, i got up at about 6:30am this morning, i got thru about 2pm, everything turned out great, i do not know if it is in my head or not, i think i can feel the solid mount alittle, however not too bad, and i love the idea of not having to replace it forever!
i bought 2 motor mounts for 27.95 from summit, so now i have enough to do another car, thanks for all the input, hope this info may help somebody else
