Ok, I have decided on everything I am doing to my 383 that will go in my '70 Coronet. KB 400's 440source heads (80cc closed chamber) XE 274 cam/lifter kit Performer RPM intake MP ignition kit 1 3/4" headers 750 carb How does this combo sound to you guys? Just want a nice streetable engine. Any idea if I will have DECENT compression and quench (stock deck height). Thanks

Sounds like a well matched setup.A quality 11" converter and some 3.55's will make it happy.Run 1 3/4 long tube headers and 2.5 mandrel exhaust for best results. For more cruising/less racing one step smaller on the cam and 3.23's will be a smooth but still quick ride.

sounds pretty good but I'd maybe go a tad smaller on the cam/carb & you could find what 383 deck heights come in at which'll b diff I'm sure from the listed height & with the piston CH/rod C to C & 1/2 the stroke & the head gasket figure your CR as close as you can on the KB calculator. Are the KB 400's a quench pad piston and b aware that the quench pad height is not included in the CH dimention & iirc the ones for my 451 (dont remem the # right off hand) the pad is an addt'l ~.060". You'll want the SCR up higher & I'd consider having someone good, port em as you've went this far otherwise (reportedly) you may b dissapointed (if no porting) & will b leaving ALOT on the table. Sure I cant persuade you to build a 451 (400 B block/440 crank) . There'd b less down time as you'd b driving the 383 till the 451 is ready to drop in & the outside dimentions would b the same so all the externals would fit right up & the torque diff would b night and day

Almost identical build as mine. Slightly smaller cam, Comps 275DEH (235/482). Was able to use the stock head gear. No real quench at .063 with Felpro's 8519. Stock deck height. Runs really well, I'm happy. I'm at 9.9:1 compression.

KB does not make a quench pad piston for the 383 , they should it would be a better choice than the dome piston ,

Might want to mock it up & see what the deck height actually ends up being as you can then mill the piston deck/valve reliefs for VP clearance/less CR if need b then dissassemble & have it balanced and depending on your octane you may want to adj the CR but w alum heads you can get by w (& prefer) higher & I like to b able to max the adv curve WO having to compromise it cause the DCR is too high for the octane. Good Luck & holler what CR it ends up being and how it ends up running for you
